Each academic year, CUSA gives out 19 awards in six categories: 

The C.V. Hotson Memorial Award, Eva Cray Scholarship, Henry Marshall Tory Award, Open Education Excellence Award, Ravens Award for Commitment to the Carleton Community, and the Teaching Excellence Award. Awards open in February of each year and close March 1st.

Open Education Excellence Awards

There shall be five (5) Open Education Excellence Awards presented annually to faculty members who have demonstrated support or advocacy for the use of Open Educational Resources on campus. This award is open to Professors who do not require a textbook purchase for a course or have shown a commitment to adopt open source textbooks. Any undergraduate student may submit nominations for these awards. Professors may also self-nominate.

Teaching Excellence Award

There shall be ten (10) Teaching Excellence Awards presented annually to faculty members who have demonstrated an outstanding ability to impart knowledge, consult students and invoke enthusiasm and participation from their students. This award is open to all teaching staff, including Professors, Instructors and Teaching Assistants. Any undergraduate student may submit nominations for these awards.

Ravens Award for Commitment to the Carleton Community

There shall be an award called The Ravens Award for Commitment to the Carleton Community presented annually to an outstanding student who will graduate within the calendar year. The candidates shall have demonstrated a strong commitment to extra-curricular activities of the Carleton University Students’ Association throughout their academic career. The candidates will have attended the University for at least two (2) fall/winter sessions. The candidate shall be in good academic standing.

Henry Marshall Tory Award

Every year, the Carleton University Students’ Association has the pleasure of presenting a maximum of one (1) Henry Marshall Tory Award to a deserving undergraduate student. To be eligible, students must demonstrate, in the opinion of the H.M. Tory Award Committee, a high degree of academic achievement and a solid commitment to the University Student’s Association and Carleton Community through broad participation and leadership in constructive extra-curricular activities.

C.V. Hotson Memorial Scholarship

The C.V. Hotson Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to a Carleton undergraduate student who has maintained a high degree of academic achievement and has indicated an interest in the University by broad participation in extra-curricular affairs of a constructive nature pertaining to the University, the Students’ Association and the Carleton community. The successful candidate is awarded $1100.

Eva Cray Scholarship

The Eva Cray Scholarship is presented annually to an outstanding undergraduate student proceeding from one year to another in any degree program at Carleton University. Eligible students must be a Canadian citizen or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), must meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements and must demonstrate financial need. An email will be sent to the financial aid office confirming that each candidate is accessing OSAP. The successful candidate is awarded $1200.
