Awards

At CUSA, we take immense pride in recognizing and celebrating the exceptional achievements of our outstanding students. Each academic year, we present over 30 awards in eight distinct categories.

Two (2) Bill Ellis Awards will be awarded each year to deserving mature or part-time undergraduate students. To be eligible, students must demonstrate, in the opinion of the Bill Ellis Awards Committee, a high degree of academic achievement and a solid commitment to the University Students’ Association and Carleton Community.

Award recipient will be awarded $500.00

The C.V. Hotson Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to a Carleton undergraduate student who has maintained a high degree of academic achievement and has indicated an interest in the University by broad participation in extra-curricular affairs of a constructive nature pertaining to the University, the Students’ Association and the Carleton community.

The Scholarship is donated by Carleton Alumni and other friends in memory of Mr. C.V. Hotson, a graduate of the School of Journalism at Carleton University in 1950 and former member of the Students’ Association. He returned to Carleton in 1953 to become an Administrative Assistant to the President and Executive Secretary of the Alumni Association, a position he held until his death in October 1960.

It is required that all applications be accompanied by a minimum of one letter of recommendation, outlining the nominee’s involvement in extracurricular activities both inside and outside of the University. The letter should demonstrate how those activities have been of benefit to Carleton University.

The Award recipient will be awarded $850.00.

The Eva Cray Scholarship is presented annually to an outstanding undergraduate student proceeding from one year to another in any degree program at Carleton University. Eligible students must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements and must demonstrate financial need. An email will be sent to the financial aid office confirming that each candidate is accessing OSAP.
Recipients will have demonstrated a commitment to student life through active involvement with the Carleton University Student Association (CUSA) and will have maintained a minimum grade point average of 8.0.

Current CUSA Executive and full-time employees are ineligible for this award. The recipient will be selected upon the recommendation of the CUSA Awards Committee. Endowed in 2003 by former members of the CUSA Executive.

Award recipient will be awarded $850.00

Every year, the Carleton University Students’ Association has the pleasure of presenting the Henry Marshall Tory Award to one deserving graduating undergraduate student. To be eligible, students must demonstrate, in the opinion of the H.M. Tory Award Committee, a high degree of academic achievement and a solid commitment to the University Students’ Association and Carleton community through broad participation and leadership in constructive extra-curricular activities. The candidate must have attended the University for at least two (2) Fall/Winter sessions and must be eligible for graduation within this calendar year.

Award recipient will be awarded $1000.00

Every year, the Carleton University Students’ Association has the pleasure of presenting a maximum of ten (10) Honours Awards for Excellence to deserving undergraduate students. To be eligible, students must demonstrate, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, a solid commitment to the University Students’ Association and Carleton Community through broad participation and leadership in constructive extra-curricular activities. The candidate shall be in good academic standing.

To be eligible for the award, an individual must have attended Carleton University during at least two (2) Fall/Winter sessions of study and be eligible for graduation within this calendar year and receive two (2) nominations from other members of the Carleton Community.

  • Up to ten  (10) recipients
  • Solid commitment to the University Students’ Association and Carleton Community through broad participation and leadership in constructive extra-curricular activities
  • Good academic standing

There shall be five (5) Open Education Excellence Awards presented annually to faculty members who have demonstrated support or advocacy for the use of Open Educational Resources on campus. This award is open to Professors who do not require a textbook purchase for a course or have shown a commitment to adopt open-source textbooks. Any undergraduate student may submit nominations for these awards. Professors may also self-nominate.

The Ravens Award for Commitment to the Carleton Community is presented annually to an outstanding student who will graduate within the calendar year. The candidates shall have demonstrated a strong commitment to extra-curricular activities of the Carleton University Students’ Association throughout their academic career. The candidates will have attended the University for at least two (2) fall/winter sessions. The candidates shall be in good academic standing.

Award recipient will be awarded $1000.00

There shall be 10 (ten) Teaching Excellence Awards presented annually to faculty members who have demonstrated outstanding ability to impart knowledge, consult students and invoke enthusiasm and participation from their students. This award is open to all teaching staff, including Professors, Instructors and Teaching Assistants. Any undergraduate student may submit nominations for these awards.
