CUSA signs memorandum with Next Room, student housing app developer

On Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, CUSA President Sean Joe-Ezigbo and VP Student Issues Aidan Kallioinen met with Aidan Fitzmaurice, Founder of Next Room, to sign a memorandum of understanding and strengthen partnerships on student housing. Next Room is a student housing app set to launch this fall and founded by Fitzmaurice, with the aim of connecting students to suitable apartments across the city. The app also plans to have features to find roommates and highlight negligent landlords.

“Next Room is a good practical way for students to find housing and fits well with CUSA’s mandate of supporting students,” Joe-Ezigbo said.

The non-fiduciary memorandum signed Monday reaffirms both parties’ commitment to addressing the severity of the student housing crisis whilst encouraging further partnerships to promote Next Room as well as student-housing volunteer opportunities at Carleton.

“This partnership helps strengthen our existing housing advocacy whilst encouraging students to get involved,” Kallioinen said.

As a student who has faced housing challenges, Next Room is the result of endless determination, and everything students have been yearning for in a housing platform,” Fitzmaurice said. “Partnering with CUSA allows us to turn Next Room into a movement, where every student is empowered to make informed housing decisions.”

Students interested in volunteering with Next Room to promote this initiative can contact CUSA or Fitzmaurice directly.
