CUSA Receives $3,500 Grant from the Lions International Foundation for Breakfast Program

CUSA President Sean Joe-Ezigbo presents the signed agreement with Lions International alongside Ottawa-Vanier Lions Club President Kate Jaenen.

On Friday, January 16, CUSA President Sean Joe-Ezigbo, Vice President Student Life Cass Geddes, and Vice President Student Issues Aidan Kallioinen invited Ottawa-Vanier Lions Club President Kate Jaenen to the CUSA Office, to facilitate the reception of a $3,522.56 grant from the Lions Club International Foundation.

The grant money will be used to fund the operation of the CUSA Breakfast Club, a program designed to provide weekly free breakfast offerings to students facing food insecurity.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of Lions International, and the continued dialogue with local volunteer organizations,” Kallioinen said. “Students aren’t alone in their food insecurity challenges, but its presence on campus is concerning and the grant money will be used to help students who need it most.”

With the reception of the grant, Lions International will become the primary sponsor of the program, alongside over a dozen local grocery stores and community groups including Metro, Loblaws, and Giant Tiger.

CUSA is committed to continue its fight against student food insecurity, and the money will help provide thousands of students a free breakfast for over a year to come.
