CUSA attends Bill 33 virtual town hall to discuss impacts to postsecondary funding

On Wednesday, September 24, CUSA’s Vice President Student Issues Aidan Kallioinen attended a virtual town hall hosted by Peggy Sattler, MPP for London West and Opposition Critic for Colleges and Universities, to discuss how CUSA and the Carleton community could be impacted by potential changes brought forth by Bill 33, or the Supporting Children and Students’ Act.

CUSA was joined by representatives from over 30 student associations and stakeholder groups from across Ontario, all of whom brought forth concerns regarding the proposed legislation’s changes to the way in which student associations levy ancillary fees to fund their operations.

Kallioinen highlighted the importance ancillary fees play in funding key programs at Carleton University, including the Unified Support Centre’s food hamper program, CUSA Clubs, and the U-Pass. We hope to work collaboratively with student association stakeholders and those in the provincial government to proactively address these concerns and continue to provide essential services to students at Carleton University.
