Bus Route Review – OC Transpo Revised Proposal

Last week, OC Transpo’s existing Bus Route Review was revised with respect to its proposals for service into Carleton University.

Our CUSA Advocacy Team has been in contact with local city Councillors and has strongly supported maintaining Route 111 service throughout the consultation process and student feedback

Among the list of re-examined routes, Capital Ward staff have indicated to CUSA that 111 Route service from Billings Bridge will now continue to Carleton University as a transitional continuation of the extension, during which O-Train Line 2 service will be new to student commuters. A review of this service will be pushed to the end of the 2024-25 academic year.

OC Transpo has also indicated that original proposals to combine Routes 10 and 12 will not go forward, and Route 10 will continue to operate separately to Carleton.

With these changes, connections to Carleton University via Billings Bridge will still be possible via Routes 10, 48, and 111 in the immediate future.

In light of these revisions, CUSA would like to acknowledge that Route 111 service to Carleton University is essential in terms of encouraging a greater variety and accessibility of transit options on campus.

We are still concerned about overall cuts to service in other areas, and the longevity of Route 111 service, but acknowledge that this is a step in the right direction on student transit priorities.
