CUSA’s Statement on Vandalism of Inclusive Crosswalk

Carleton University Student Association (CUSA), in collaboration with CUSA’s Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre (GSRC) and Carleton University, proudly unveiled a repainted rainbow crosswalk as a symbol of pride and inclusivity. Regrettably, over the weekend, this emblem of unity was vandalised.

Campus Safety promptly discovered the vandalism and has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. Furthermore, Facility Management and Planning (FMP) has been promptly notified and is actively engaged in repairing the damage.

CUSA is profoundly disappointed by this reprehensible act. We emphatically reiterate our unwavering commitment to fostering an environment of acceptance and respect for all individuals. We categorically denounce all forms of homophobia, xenophobia, and other forms discrimination.

Carleton University and CUSA spaces are intended to be safe havens for diverse communities. We stand united against any attempt to undermine the principles of inclusivity and equality upon which our community is built.

We encourage anyone affected by this incident to reach out to the Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre (GSRC) for support and resources.
