The Carleton Disability Awareness Centre is pleased to be hosting Jamie Brewer from American Horror Story on Friday November 25 at Carleton University Residence Commons. Brewer will be speaking about her time working at American Horror Story, as well as disability representation in the media. The event will also include a Q&A portion.

Brewer’s first role on American Horror Story was in season 1 as Jessica Lange’s daughter, Adelaide ‘Addie’ Langdon. She then returned in season 3 in the lead role of ‘Nan,’ and season 4 as ‘Marjorie’ playing opposite Neil Patrick Harris. Brewer has also appeared in the crime drama Southland, and was the first model with Down Syndrome to walk in New York Fashion Week.

As an activist in the Down Syndrome community, Brewer has been involved with a number of organizations advocating for people with disabilities. She served on the ARC Governmental Affairs Committee for Texas to improve legal rights and recognition for disabled people, and was active in arguing against the use of the word “retarded” in legislation.

The event is taking place in partnership with the Campus Activity Board (CAB) and Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA). It will include a special VIP meet and greet for five lucky winners. Click here to enter the draw.

Doors open at 7:30. Visit the Facebook event page for ticket information.
