CUSA Council Successfully Passes New Measures to Support Clubs and Societies

OTTAWA, ON – Today, at an emergency CUSA Council Meeting, Ahmad Hashimi, Vice President Internal Affairs of the Carleton University Students Association (CUSA), presented five motions to amend/repeal Bylaws IX, X, XI, XII, V. The Council voted unanimously in favour to revamp ways CUSA supports its affiliated Clubs and Societies.

“CUSA understands the dire need for reforms as to how we best support our clubs and societies. These new changes increased CUSA’s accountability in serving and funding these student groups,”  Hashimi stated.

The new bylaw changes propose measures for club funding and certification procedures and mandated the Council to enact a Clubs Oversight Committee. The committee works with CUSA’s Student Groups Administrator in addressing the new and any future measures. The committee’s membership includes:

  • The Student Groups Administrator (Chair)
  • Three elected Club Delegates
  • 1 student-at-large
  • 1 CUSA Councillor
  • The Vice President Internal Affairs
  • The Vice President Finance
  • The CUSA President (ex-officio, non-voting member)

“We (CUSA) acknowledge that these measures are the first step in transforming how CUSA better serves our clubs and societies. This summer CUSA is developing a new strategic plan to address the realities of a post-COVID world. It will include a specific action plan to better serve our student groups. In the coming weeks, CUSA will release more information concerning consultations that aim to help us better understand the needs of our student groups” Hashimi concluded.
