Fem(me) Talk: Playing with Sex, Race, and Power

March 23, 2016 @ 6:00 pm

During last year’s Think Kink Week, the Womyn’s Centres Darker Shades of Kink Fem(me) Talk looked at race as it intersects with BDSM and its culture. However, there was an absence of an indepth conversation on decolonizing kink and what challenges that present.

This Fem(me) talk will focus on decolonizing kink through an exploration of race play within BDSM culture. We will explore:

What is Race Play? According to Urban Dictionary it is defined as “An avant-garde, but increasingly accepted form of sexual role play in which people of different races consensually reject all political correctness (especially verbal) and propriety in favor of sexual pleasure and fulfillment”.

Can race play be decolonized? Where does womanism fit in conversations of sex, race, and power? Do conversations on consent and submission change when race intersects?
