Carleton Pride Week!
January 16, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - January 20, 2017 @ 8:00 pm
This year, Carleton’s Pride Week will take on the theme of activism! Come out and support your local community while we take some time to thank those who have done amazing work for queer and trans folks everywhere! This year’s events include:
– A film screening on January 16th, 2017 of United in Anger, which details the organization ACT UP! and their use of emotions during the AIDs crisis. Takes place in the GSRC (UC 427) at 5pm.
-A workshop on sex and disability on January 17th, 2017, hosted by the lovely shop Venus Envy. akes place in the Bill Ellis Co-Working Space (UC 314) at 6pm.
-True to the theme of the week, we will be hosting an activist caucus in which different community groups from Ottawa will let us know about their services and how we as students can become more involved! This will take place January 18th, 2017 and is sure to be a great opportunity for anyone looking to make a difference in the lives of others. Takes place at 1:30p.m.
-Finally, we will be facilitating a discussion on fatphobia in the queer community on January 20, 2017. Here we will answer questions like: what is fatphobia, how does it affect people, how people contribute to it, and how we can help eradicate it in our spaces. Takes place in the GSRC (UC 427) at 12pm.
Each week leading up to Pride, the GSRC will do a profile on different activists who have made contributions to queer and trans communities. This year’s festivities are sure to be great, so make sure to tell all your friends! Stay tuned as we hammer out more event details.
