Need a Ride? Make Transportation More Affordable for Students Through Ridesharing.
Commuting to school is a hassle, especially in the Ottawa Winter. The LRT from Bayview to Greenboro will be down next year, and students need better transportation options. Want to reduce your carbon footprint by carpooling more? We will introduce a ridesharing/carpooling service for students, which will be helpful for those coming from further distances, like Barrhaven and Orleans. This will also help reduce the number of cars coming to and from campus.
Lawyers Are Expensive. Make Legal Services More Available for Students.
Legal aid is hard to find and hard to afford. We want to help connect students with accessible legal aid. We will also introduce programming to promote awareness of tenant rights for off-campus students.
Get More From Your Bookstore. Increase Programming at Haven Books & Cafe.
Haven Books is a convenient off-campus location that can be improved to better suit students’ needs. We will create new and alternative programming for Haven’s to appeal to a wider range of student preferences. Ollies has Thirsty Thursdays, let’s bring in a Haven’s Book Club, Karaoke in the Cafe, and Wine Down Wednesdays. Are you tired of having to wait for the only copy of your textbook at the Library Reserves? We will also introduce a Haven’s textbook archive. Library Reserves copies are limited, and this way, students can rent books onsite to read at Havens Cafe.
Get those grants. Empower Student Entrepreneurs to Succeed.
Carleton students are full of bright ideas, and we want to help see these come to life. We plan to empower student entrepreneurs by providing free, accessible spaces to host pop-up student businesses. We will also connect student entrepreneurs with grants through sponsorship expansion, and increase the capacity of Hatch, CUSA’s Entrepreneurship Centre, to host a larger cohort size. This way, more students can access entrepreneurial-focused programming and networking.
Got Plans this Weekend? Reduced ticket prices for sports, concerts and more.
It can be hard to explore all that Ottawa has to offer without breaking the bank. We plan to increase partnerships with local events, vendors and small business owners in Ottawa to get you more discounts, including better deals for students at events like Ottawa 67’s and Redblacks games, CTC Concerts, and Escapade.
