CUSA By-Election to be held March 21st-22nd

The CUSA Elections Office has released the official Writ of Election for the 2018 Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) By-Elections to be held on March 21st and 22nd.

Due to a vote of non-confidence in the positions of President, Vice President Internal, and Vice President Student Services during the CUSA General Elections in February, the By-Election is being held to elect representatives for these positions.

The executive positions open for election are:

President – Oversees the general operations of the Association, its relationship with the university administration, and CUSA’s large-scale projects.

Vice President Internal – Makes decisions about the internal operations of the Association, including CUSA Council and the main office. The VPI is also responsible for all issues related to clubs and societies.

Vice President Student Services – Manages all of CUSA’s Service Centres and Service Centre employees.

All undergraduate students are eligible to run for a CUSA executive position.

CUSA Councillors are faculty-specific constituency representatives who sit on CUSA Council, the body that makes all major decisions for the association. Candidates must run for a position within their faculty of study.

A number of CUSA Council seats were unclaimed following the CUSA General Elections in February and will be elected during the By-Elections

The remaining CUSA Council seats are broken down as such:

Arts & Social Sciences – 4 positions

Public Affairs – 1 position

Special Students – 1 position

The nomination period for all positions will begin pm Wednesday, March 7th at 12:00AM and run until Friday, March 9th at 11:59PM.

Following a mandatory blackout period on March 12th and 13th, the campaign period will run until Tuesday, March 20th at 11:59PM. Only approved social media campaigning is allowed on weekends.

Voting will be open from 6:00AM on March 21st to 10:00PM on March 22nd.

Ballots cast for the CUSA Executives will be counted with a ranked voting system.

Ballots cast for the CUSA Councillors will be counted with a first past the post system.

All students deemed eligible candidates by Elections Carleton will be requested to attend the All-Candidates Meeting to be held on March 13th.
